Corona Virus Update 5/4

We are 58 days since our first confirmed case of Covid-19 in Connecticut.
1464 are currently hospitalized, down 24 today
2556 have died, 61 today
This is the 12th consecutive days with a decreased number of hospitalized patients
Our high was 1946 hospitalized on 4/17 (day 43)
The decision to lockdown Connecticut was announced on 3/20 and went into effect on 3/22 at 8:00 pm. (Day 16)
At the time of the announcement, Connecticut had 40 patients hospitalized and 4 deaths.

I spoke to 2 members today who have been denied Workers Compensation after contracting Covid-19. The insurance representative is saying they could have contracted Covid IMT he community. Both worked with Covid positive patients or co-workers. One is a Home Health Aide and the other an RN. Both agreed to speak to the press and the Governor.
PLEASE:
If you’re a healthcare worker or other essential worker and  think you have been exposed or become sick and aren’t sure whee you contracted it, please report it immediately to your employer, YOUR LOCAL UNION LEADERSHIP, and Worker’s Compensation. You don’t want to end up losing all your paid time off, being responsible for healthcare bills, or find out a year from now that there are long term effects, and have lost your chance to file. We have attorneys to help you at no cost. Also, you may be required to see (virtually) a company doctor (or hotline) but if you want to see your own doctor in follow up, that is your right. But it may need to be done by the second visit. Another reason to contact Local Union Leadership for guidance.

I’m also asking Union Local Leaders to share with me any information on Furloughs, cuts in hours, or layoffs, and members who become sick and/or test positive.

Please be well,
John
